HAY Nelson Apple Bubble pendant light M 53 5 cm
Pendant lamp Nelson Apple Bubble with white shadeNelson Bubble is a series of pendant lamps in a variety of shapes, designed by American deisgner George Nelson back in 1942. He was inspired to the lamp series by Swedish, silk-covered lamps. He wanted these for his office, but they were too expensive for him, whereupon he set about developing the Nelson Bubble lamp series with great ingenuity. The shades of the lights are made of a lightweight, differently shaped frame of steel struts and a self-crosslinking plastic spray developed by the U.S. military. The beautiful shape and white coloring add to the appeal of the lampshades in this series and also create a very pleasant lighting effect.Architect and visual artist George Nelson (1907 - 1986) was born in Connecticut and was one of the most influential figures in the crucial early days of modern design. Educated at Yale, he believed that a designer's job was to make the world a better place. In his various designs of furniture, lighting, and even buildings, he often took his cue from the perfection of nature's creations.
